I travel around Florida quite a bit to capture all of the photos you see me post on here. Some of my favorite photos have come right from the backyard however. Sundays are usually a day of rest, laundry, and all those exciting adult things. While sitting around the house, I heard a distinct call from a Black-bellied Whistling Duck coming from the backyard. I quickly grabbed my camera and went outside to see if I could locate the calling duck. At first, the only bird I heard or saw was our noisy Northern Mockingbird (who calls nonstop). This led me to believe that the mockingbird was just mimicking a whistling duck. After about thirty seconds, sure enough, an actual Black-bellied Whistling Duck flew directly over our house and landed in one of our oak trees. They began calling and I was also able to locate their mate in the neighbors pine tree. It's great to get a beautiful photograph from the backyard!
