Drying Off

from $30.00

While spending the weekend on the Rainbow River, we spotted various wildlife, including River Otters, Wood Ducks, and Anhingas. We found this Anhinga perched on a log in an isolated pond off the Withlacoochee River, drying off its wings. Anhingas must dry their wings like this because they dive below the water's surface to catch fish, similar to ducks. However, unlike ducks, Anhingas do not produce waterproofing oils, so they need to dry their wings periodically to stay buoyant and able to fly.
