This is a photo that I've been trying to get for a long time. A Great Horned Owl silhouetted by the Full Moon.

It was after a nice evening, as my wife and I had dinner at my parents house. As we were getting ready to leave, I heard the resident Great Horned Owl pair hooting back and forth to each other. As I have spent so much time with this pair (Charlotte & Joby), I have learned their habits. I knew exactly where one of them was perched when I heard them.

Perched at the top of a dead pine tree snag, the Full Moon was rising in the sky behind them. I searched for the perfect angle and composition I have looked for many other late nights spent trying to capture this image. My heart began to race as I kneeled down and found the perfect spot to capture the Full Moon completely surrounding the Great Horned Owl. I fired off about a hundred photos in a few minutes and I didn't really know what I captured until I walked back to my wife. We both looked at the images I captured on the back of my camera. I said to her "Do you know how long I've been trying to get this shot?" I still can't believe that I captured this.
